Tantissime sono le voci i cui lavori sono giunti in redazione negli ultimi mesi, e si tratta quasi esclusivamente di voci femminili. Tra esse troviamo quella di Jeni Fleming che, con il suo Acoustic Trio, ha registrato nel 2002 in tre sedute live questo cd intitolato The Trinity Tour, suo disco d'esordio. Qui perÓ non v’é una voce da un lato ed un trio di supporto dall’altro. La voce della Fleming é parte integrante del trio, avendo come accompagnamento strumentale soltanto la chitarra di Jake Fleming ed il contrabbasso di Chad Langford. La loro presenza risulta decisiva per la riuscita del disco: pur non avendo tante occasioni per ritagliarsi momenti solistici propri per la costante presenza della bella voce della Fleming, i due riescono ad emergere come accompagnatori sopraffini, in particolare Fleming nelle ballad e Langford in quelli un po’ più sostenuti. é proprio Chad Langford a fare la sua bella figura nel brano di apertura – il più bello del disco, a nostro avviso -, quell’ "Invitation" di Bronislaw Kaper che tante volte é stata battuta e che qui riceve un bellissimo arrangiamento dal contrabbassista, che conduce da solo una base vicina al funky su cui la voce della Fleming esegue il tema.

Il disco va poi avanti tra originals di buona fattura e celeberrimi standards presentati in maniera sempre molto personale che, per quanto non dichiaratamente jazzy, mostrano di avere del jazz una spiccata componente swingante e l’intima atmosfera delle ballad. Tra essi spiccano, oltre alla citata "Invitation", un’accattivante "Black Coffee", l’eterna "Over The Rainbow" ed un’originalissima "All Or Nothing At All" eseguita a tempo medio. Un disco gradevolissimo nel quale abbiamo perÓ anche riscontrato una scarsa attitudine della Fleming all’improvvisazione vocale ed una sua tendenza a tenere troppo la scena, due componenti che forse rendono troppo lineare l’esecuzione dei singoli brani. Ma, si sa, queste sono cose che vengono fuori col tempo per cui siamo fiduciosi per il futuro della cantante.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
Many are the voices whose work has surfaced in the past months, and of these almost all are female artists. Among them we find that of Jeni Fleming who, with her Acoustic Trio, recorded in 2002 from three live performances the CD entitled 'The Trinity Tour', her disc d'esordio. This is not however a case of the voice on one side and the trio on the other. Fleming's voice is an integral part of the trio, having as instrumental accompaniment only the guitar of Jake Fleming and the double bass of Chad Langford. Yet their presence is decisive in the results: although without much occasion for solos--rightly for the constant presence of Fleming's beautiful voice--these two are able to emerge as superb accompanists, Fleming particularly in the ballads and Langford in the more drawn out songs. It is Chad Langford who makes the impression in the opening part of the CD --the best of the disc, in our opinion, with that "Invitation" of Bronislaw Kaper that has been done so often and which here receives an incredibly beautiful arrangement by the double bass player, who sets a tone verging on funky--a tone which Fleming's voice follows with ease. The disc continues with well-done originals and celebrated standards which are always presented in a very personal manner; not purely jazzy, they offer rather jazz with a touch of swing and the ever intimate context of the ballad. Among the songs, beyond the aforementioned "Invitation", there is: a sultry "Black Coffee", the eternal "Over The Rainbow" and a very original "All Or Nothing At All" done in tempo medio. A delightful disc, but one in which we have also noted a lack of improvisational verve in Fleming as well as a tendency to steal the show, two factors which perhaps render the execution too linear in the selected sets. But, one knows, these sorts of thing get worked out in time and we therefore trust the future of the singer will be a luminous one.
